Currently, under our province’s COIVD-19 restriction, wedding ceremonies are rather uncomplicated and uneventful. Wouldn’t you agree? I mean, a gathering of five is easy-peasy, right? But believe me, they weren’t always this way!
However! And there’s a big BUT! Times will change, we shall gather and celebrate once again, and that means every beautiful couple out there will have the opportunity to stand at the end of an aisle, holding hands, about to lock lips and be able to look out at an audience filled with their loved ones. This is a memory that you’ll never forget. For me, personally, looking at the front row, where my grandparents and parents sat, and scanning the room to land on lifelong friends, I was overcome with the most happy of emotions – pure joy. I’ll cherish those moments forever.
You may think that a wedding ceremony is quite straightforward… big surprise! They’re not! Just like many other aspects of a wedding, they can be complicated and you can over look the most simple of details. That’s why we’ve created this list of our top ten wedding ceremony tips. Some of these things may have never crossed your mind, but that’s what we’re here for! And honestly, I could list a million tips to help when it comes to behind the scenes, but this right here is a great start!
Full disclosure, this stuff comes to me easily, simply because I’ve been a wedding planner for over ten years. I’ve learned by trial and error…. so what I’m saying, I guess, is… I’ve done all the hard research for you! You’re welcome! But seriously, these tips are just a guideline! Regardless of what you do for your ceremony, it’ll be perfect for you, I’m sure of it.
If you’re looking for more knowledge when it comes to making your big day as perfect as can be, you should give us a follow on Instagram @skysthelimithfx and of course, we’re always here to help.
- First and foremost; I can’t say this one enough. Have a ceremony rehearsal… don’t avoid it. You won’t regret it. This will show everyone in your wedding party what their roll is and that makes the day so much easier (especially for your wedding planner!).
- Before heading down the aisle, be sure to touch up your makeup and floof your dress (your wedding planner can help with this).
- Don’t forget to smile while walking down the aisle. I know it’s scary, being the centre of attention (unless you’re me). But trust me, you’ll be more fond of the photos afterwards
- If you’re saying your vows outside on grass, be sure to wear a block heel (woo hoo to the fact that they’re so on trend right now). Otherwise, you’ll be looking like your staggering down the aisle with those pumps or stilettos (hello… too many mimosas??)
- Make sure that your officiant knows to move out of the frame after you say your “I do’s” so that your photographer can catch a special shot of just the two of you. That way, you can hang your make out sesh on your wall forever! Don’t worry, your officiant won’t mind. I promise.
- If you’re not up for the time consuming event that is the receiving line, make sure you have a designated spot to escape to as a couple directly after the ceremony. Your wedding planner will be more than happy to whisk you away immediately.
- Speaking of escaping – I highly recommend taking a moment of alone time with your love as soon as you say your vows. Find a quite/private spot to have a glass of champagne and connect. Take it all in and celebrate those incredible first moments as a wedded couple.
- After the ceremony, have your emcee or officiant announce exactly what’s expected of guests after the ceremony (ex. Please gather in “said cocktail area” for light refreshments). You wouldn’t believe how often guests become confused after a ceremony, even if there is a program!
- I highly recommend that either a AV, DJ or professional musician handle the ceremony music – recessional and processional. This way, you’re in the hands of someone who coordinates ceremony music on a regular basis and you won’t have a worry in the world about your music starting and ending on time . The only worry you’ll have is remembering to smile!
- If you’re worried about your wedding party looking off balance or not in a perfect row beside you and your love (ahem… groomsmen), use markers to indicate where they’re meant to sand in place (stickers for indoors, golf tees for outdoors).
All in all, I hope this information helps. Don’t forget to get in touch, should you need any assistance on your big day!! www.skystldesign.com/weddings/
